Finances have always been a struggle for me. My parents have always said growing up, “Casie, you should live within your means, don’t rack up those credit card bills!” And man, do I wish I would have followed their advice. As I mentioned before, in my NYC post, living in NYC definitely wasn’t the cheap route to living life, and maybe it wasn’t the smartest financial decision I’ve made, but, at the same time, I’m trying to live my life by the mentality of, money comes, and money goes, but experiences last a life time. I’ve come to realize, the hard way, that experiences oftentimes cost money. OK, OK, not all of the time, but eating out, shopping, gym, traveling, dance classes, all cost a substantial amount of money. Unfortunately, I have struggled with saving for a long time, but I’ve FINALLY come to a point, where I literally cant afford myself, so it’s time to save money and spend less!
I recently went to see a financial adviser, and he gave me a few good tips:
- If you have high interest credit cards, transfer them to 0% interest cards
- Maybe pick up a side job
- Start saving! Contribute to your 401K, which I already have been! YAY for me!
I know these all might sound like no brainers, but for people who have bad spending habits, such as myself, I need to start from square one.
One thing I have done to help ease my financial strain, is start working for Shipt. This has really been a life saver for me! On average, I make around $200 in two days… Shipt is a grocery delivery service, were you order the groceries on the Shipt app on your phone, then if I am on the schedule, I will pick up the order, go shop for it at the grocery store, and then deliver it to your house. If you are a mom, who has kids, or an elderly person who has a difficult time getting around, this service is perfect for you, or actually, I take that back, this service is great for everyone! You choose a plan that works for you, and you have unlimited times to order groceries. I honestly, have really enjoyed working for them and it truly provides a wonderful service for those who need it.
ALSO, if you are interested you can use the referral code CASIE and receive $10 in free groceries for signing up! If you have any questions, be sure to let me know! But make sure to check out the website www.shipt.com to see if it is available in your area!
GET EXCITED! IT’S NO SHOP AUGUST!
Aside for this, which has been a HUGE help in staying on budget, this month I am taking on no spend August, which means that I will not be buying any clothes, or anything excessive for myself! UGH, this is going to be hard… I definitely have a shopping addiction, being a blogger, I always want to look my best, and have the most trendy clothes, but I HAVE to do this if I want to start saving and stop spending. So REALLY WISH ME LUCK! Because I am definitely going to need it!
What is something that you have given up in order to save money?
[…] Summertime in Texas is well, brutal to say the least! In Dallas, it is usually around 90 degrees and dressing for the unbearable Texas heat can sometimes be a challenge! I always love to wear dresses during the summertime because they are definitely more breathable and I’ll take any relief I can from this Texas heat that I can. In case you didn’t realize, I am always on the hunt for a good bargain, especially when it comes to cute dresses. I recently stopped by Zara, and they are having a HUGE sale, and I mean HUGE. Shoes were $15, dresses were $30, and the list goes on and on! While I was shopping I came across a couple of dresses from Zara that were lightweight, easy, and breezy, and could easily go from day to night with a quick shoe change! SO I had to buy them, but DON’T FRET, I didn’t buy them in August (see my last post about no shop August). […]
